Internet connectivity in Gaza has experienced a significant decline recently, with the Palestinian telecoms regulator confirming that all internet and fixed line communications services have been disrupted due to a targeted attack on the main fibre route in the territory. The outage has severely impacted the ability of residents, charities, and organizations to communicate effectively.
Netblocks, a group monitoring internet connectivity, reported a sharp decrease in Gaza's internet access over the past two days, with connectivity levels for one of the major providers, PalTel, dropping to just 13%. This blackout not only hinders daily communication but also complicates efforts to gather reliable information about the situation in Gaza.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has already expressed challenges in communicating with their teams on the ground and coordinating with other organizations to address urgent humanitarian needs. With international media restricted in Gaza, the reliance on online content shared by residents, journalists, and local authorities becomes even more crucial for understanding the events in the region.
