Armed police responded to Lower Breck Road in Tuebrook after reports of a man carrying a machete. The incident occurred just before 7:45 am on Thursday, June 12, with no indication of the weapon being used or threats made.
The man, in his 50s, is now in custody, and the machete has been confiscated. St Margaret's Primary School, located on Lower Breck Road, was briefly placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.
Councillor Joe Dunne confirmed the situation, stating that armed response officers swiftly detained the man without incident. The school and roads have since reopened, with police continuing to monitor the area.
Liverpool City Council verified the brief lockdown at St Margaret's Primary School, ensuring the safety of all pupils and staff during the incident. Parents were contacted to delay dropping off their children until the situation was resolved.
Chief Inspector Neal Arrowsmith reassured the public that the matter was handled promptly and without any reported threats. Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
