China reiterated its support for the trade deal announced by US President Donald Trump, highlighting the importance of both sides honoring the consensus and emphasizing China's reputation for keeping its promises.
The agreement, established after a phone call between Trump and China's President Xi Jinping, marks a significant pause in the trade conflict between the world's leading economies.
Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry, stated during a regular press briefing, 'China has always kept its word and delivered results. Now that a consensus has been reached, both parties should uphold it.'
The Trump-Xi phone conversation resolved a deadlock that arose shortly after an initial agreement was made in Geneva. Subsequent discussions in London, following the call, were described by Washington as adding substance to the Geneva deal, aimed at reducing mutual tariffs.
The Geneva accord faced obstacles due to China's restrictions on mineral exports, prompting the Trump administration to impose export controls on semiconductor design software, jet engines, and other products destined for China.
