Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, has requested the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to investigate the recent stampede near the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. The incident occurred during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL victory celebrations on June 4, resulting in 11 deaths and 75 injuries.

In a letter to the NHRC Chairman, Ashoka expressed deep concern over the incident, attributing it to gross negligence and mismanagement by government officials, agencies, and private entities involved in organizing the event. He highlighted critical lapses in crowd control, security measures, and emergency services at the venue.

According to Ashoka, the stampede was a direct result of misleading announcements about free passes, leading to an overwhelming influx of people at the stadium. He also criticized the lack of adequate security personnel and basic facilities, such as medical aid and ambulances, which exacerbated the situation.

The BJP leader emphasized the need for accountability and recommended disciplinary or legal action against those responsible for the tragedy. He urged the NHRC to issue guidelines for ensuring public safety during large-scale events, focusing on crowd control and emergency preparedness to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Ashoka's plea for NHRC intervention aims to secure justice for the victims' families and prevent such incidents from recurring, emphasizing the importance of government agencies' foresight and preparedness in ensuring public safety.
