Councillors say souvenir hunters "seem to be quite fascinated" by the street name.

A Torquay councillor has reported that souvenir hunters have been targeting a road sign on Daddyhole Road, leading to multiple disappearances and replacements of the sign. Councillor Nick Bye mentioned that the signs have been stolen and replaced twice since the last council elections in May 2023.

The street name, Daddyhole Road, is believed to have originated from the old Devon term 'daddy', which referred to the devil. Legend has it that the devil resided in a cave at the base of the cliffs where a large limestone rock fell into the sea, forming the 'daddyhole'.

The issue of the missing signs was brought up during a discussion on how to allocate surplus funds from the council for local community projects.
