MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday night said that the Low Pressure Area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) intensified and developed into a tropical depression, which has been named 'Auring.'

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced on Thursday night that the Low Pressure Area within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical depression, now named 'Auring'.

According to the 11 p.m. advisory, the storm is currently located 295 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, with winds reaching up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts up to 55 kph, moving north-northwest at 15 kph.

No tropical cyclone signal has been raised at this time.

Heavy rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters is expected to impact Batanes and Cagayan, potentially leading to localized floods in urbanized and low-lying areas, as well as areas near rivers. The risk of landslides is also present in highly susceptible areas.

Pagasa warned that forecasted rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated regions, with the possibility of worsened impacts in some areas due to significant antecedent rainfall.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard life and property. Pagasa Regional Services Division may issue Heavy Rainfall Warnings, Rainfall/Thunderstorm Advisories, and other severe weather information specific to their areas of responsibility as needed.
