Tropical Depression Auring (formerly low-pressure area 6b) may make landfall in Taiwan by Friday early morning, June 13.

Tropical Depression Auring, previously known as low-pressure area 6b, is anticipated to make landfall in Taiwan by early morning on Friday, June 13.

As per the latest tropical cyclone bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday night, Auring is forecasted to move north-northwestward and potentially hit Taiwan between tonight and tomorrow morning.

Due to land interaction, Pagasa expects rapid weakening, possibly leading to Auring being downgraded to a low-pressure area by tomorrow. The tropical depression was last located 295 kilometers north of Itbayat town, Batanes province, moving at a speed of 15 km per hour with maximum wind speeds of 45 kph and gustiness of 55 kph.

Pagasa estimates that Auring will be outside the Philippine area of responsibility, around 690 km north of Itbayat, by Friday night. No tropical cyclone wind signals have been raised, but Pagasa warns of heavy rainfall between 50 and 100 millimeters in Batanes and Cagayan provinces from Thursday night to Friday evening due to Auring. This may result in localized flooding and landslides.

Low-pressure area 6b was upgraded to Tropical Depression Auring on June 12 at 8 p.m., according to Pagasa.
