Harvey Weinstein got a mistrial on his rape charge after the jury foreperson said he faced threats from other jurors.

Harvey Weinstein faced a mistrial on his rape charge after the jury foreperson revealed he had been threatened by other jurors, leading to a halt in deliberations.

The 12-person jury in Weinstein's trial had found him guilty of one count of a criminal sexual act against Miriam Haley, but not guilty of the other count against Kaja Sokola. These convictions remain.

Prosecutors announced their intention to retry Weinstein on the rape charge involving Jessica Mann, with a hearing set for July 2. Weinstein's attorneys plan to appeal the criminal sexual act conviction and investigate possible juror misconduct.

During deliberations, tensions in the jury room escalated, prompting the foreperson to express fear and concerns for his safety, leading to the mistrial declaration. Weinstein himself requested a mistrial, citing unfair treatment.

After the mistrial, the foreperson did not return to the jury room, causing disappointment among other jurors. The foreperson had previously raised concerns about considering irrelevant elements from Weinstein's past during deliberations.

This mistrial comes after Weinstein's 2020 conviction was overturned due to prejudiced rulings. In this trial, Mann testified about an alleged incident in a Manhattan hotel in 2013, where Weinstein engaged in unwanted sexual acts.
