Fredi Rivero died in hospital the day after being attacked by girls aged 15, 16 and 17

Three teenage girls have admitted to the tragic killing of a 75-year-old man in a street attack in north London that was captured on a mobile phone.

Fredi Rivero, a Bolivian national, was assaulted by the girls, aged 15, 16, and 17, in Islington on 27 February and passed away in the hospital the following day.

Rivero, described as a beloved family man, was near a bus stop on Seven Sisters Road when the girls disembarked from a bus and surrounded him. They stole his glasses and proceeded to push, shove, kick, and punch him while one of the teenagers recorded the incident on her phone.

Police were alerted to the attack at 11:25 pm and upon arrival, they found Rivero unconscious with a severe head injury and in cardiac arrest.

Subsequently, CCTV footage of the assault was recovered, showing the 17-year-old girl punching Rivero in the head, causing him to fall backwards.

DI Devan Taylor of Scotland Yard expressed his condolences to Rivero's family and commended their dignified demeanor throughout the investigation. He also acknowledged the public members who came to Rivero's aid after the incident.

The teenagers, appearing via video link at the Old Bailey, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. They are set to be sentenced by judge Judy Khan KC on 5 September. The defendants, due to their age, cannot be named.

Reports have been ordered, and the defendants have been remanded into custody. The victim's daughter, ex-wife, and cousins were present in court for the hearing.
