Pakistani fast bowler Khurram Shahzad is all set to join Worcestershire County Cricket Club in July to play for the remainder of the county season. The 25-year-old right-arm pacer from Punjab will be showcasing his skills in all three formats for the Pears until the end of the season.

Khurram Shahzad, who hails from district Mandi Bahuddin, has drawn comparisons to South African legend Dale Steyn due to his bowling action and ability to swing the ball. With 20 wickets in six Tests, including impressive figures of 6 for 90 against Bangladesh, Khurram made his Test debut in 2023.

Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali played a key role in securing the signing of Khurram Shahzad. Azhar Ali's association with Worcestershire CCC in the past seasons, both as a player and briefly as part of the coaching staff, has been instrumental in bringing Pakistani talent to the club. Previously, leg spinner Usama Mir was also signed by Worcestershire CCC based on Azhar's recommendations.

Head Coach Alan Richardson expressed his excitement about the signing, highlighting Shahzad's bowling skills and international experience. Richardson praised Khurram's ability to swing the ball consistently above 80mph, adding depth to the team's bowling attack and providing valuable mentorship to younger bowlers.

Having recently played for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he helped the team reach the final, Khurram Shahzad showcased his talent by taking 12 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 19.5 and an economy rate just above 8.

Khurram's versatility will be crucial for Worcestershire as he gears up to participate in the County Championship, Metro Bank One Day Cup, and Vitality T20 Blast. His debut for Worcestershire is scheduled for July 4, when the team faces Yorkshire at Headingley in the Vitality T20 Blast.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Shahzad stated, "Joining a prestigious club like Worcestershire is a great honor for me. I have always aspired to play in England, and this opportunity will not only help me grow as a player but also contribute to the team's success in the season."
