Drogheda are set to miss out on a place in the 2025-26 Uefa Conference League because two clubs under the same ownership cannot compete in the same competition.

Drogheda expressed disappointment as they are likely to miss out on a spot in the 2025-26 Uefa Conference League. This is because two clubs, Drogheda United and Silkeborg IF, owned by the same entity, cannot participate in the same competition.

In a statement released on Thursday, Drogheda stated that they are 'devastated' by the situation and consider the decision to be 'harsh and unfair'.

The club confirmed that Uefa notified them about the potential expulsion from the Uefa Conference League due to the ownership conflict. Despite making significant efforts to collaborate with Uefa and implement necessary changes in ownership and governance, Drogheda is facing this setback.

Expressing their disappointment, Drogheda mentioned that they believe the enforcement of the new rule changes this year has been inconsistent and poorly communicated across different clubs. They have been actively engaged in discussions with UEFA for months, proposing various solutions such as share disposition and trust arrangements, but all their efforts have been rejected.

The club revealed that a Cas hearing is scheduled for Monday, and they are determined to fight for their spot in Europe by exploring all possible options.

Uefa decided to move up the assessment date to 1 March instead of June. However, sources familiar with the situation claim that Drogheda did not receive the Uefa circular about the change in date, unlike other clubs.
