NICE CROWD, in collaboration with Events DC, is excited to announce that Jay Pharoah and Sommore will be the headline performers at the third annual Because They're Funny (BTF) DC Comedy Festival. The event will take place at The Wharf in Washington DC from October 10–12, 2025. BTF, created by the team behind the American Black Film Festival, aims to celebrate diverse comedic talent, promote emerging voices, and highlight DC as a comedy hotspot.

Jay Pharoah, known for his comedic impressions, his time on Saturday Night Live, and his role in Comedy Central's Out of Office, will be gracing the stage at the Anthem on Saturday, October 11. He will also host the festival's flagship "Breakout Comedian of the Year" Competition, where six finalists will compete for a $10,000 grand prize and the chance to sign with Innovative Artists, a top Hollywood talent agency.

NICE CROWD CEO Jeff Friday and President Nicole Friday expressed their excitement for the festival's growth and the choice of DC as its home. They are thrilled to have both Sommore and Jay Pharoah headlining two nights at the Anthem.

Following the competition, the festival will continue with the Hey Ladies Comedy Experience hosted by Sommore on Sunday, October 12. Sommore, known as the "Queen of Comedy," is celebrated for her sharp wit, stand-up specials, and roles in popular films like Friday After Next and Soul Plane. The lineup will also include Tisha Campbell, known for her roles in Martin and My Wife and Kids, showcasing her comedic talent and authenticity.

Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates expressed her enthusiasm for hosting the festival in Washington, DC, positioning the city as a premier comedy destination and highlighting emerging talent. Major acts like Jay Pharoah will be welcomed to the city, promising unforgettable performances and a vibrant atmosphere.

Aside from the headline shows, Because They're Funny will feature panels, podcasts, an open mic event for local DC comedians, and more. Presale tickets are currently available for the headline shows, with general admission tickets to follow soon after. Submissions for the 2025 Breakout Comedian of the Year Competition are open until June 16, offering aspiring comedians a chance to compete and propel their careers to the next level.
