Two years on from the Jonny Bairstow stumping, Adam Carey was close by as South Africa’s David Bedingham flicked away a ball that looked to have lodged in his pad flap.

Australian captain Pat Cummins recently shared that he would have retracted an appeal for handling the ball against South Africa's David Bedingham if the umpires hadn't declared it a dead ball while Alex Carey awaited a possible catch.

Two years after the Jonny Bairstow stumping incident that caused chaos at Lord's, Carey witnessed Bedingham flicking away a ball that seemed to have gotten stuck in his pad flap. Although this would constitute a dead ball as per the game's rules, there was some speculation about a potential appeal from the Australians.

Bedingham, feeling relieved, confessed that he had panicked due to Carey's proximity. He mentioned, 'I panicked big time, because Carey was standing up so he was quite close. The umpires said regardless I think it was dead ball, but the way I dropped the ball, picked up the ball, came across as a bit dodgy.'
