Friends of missing woman outlined their concerns about the man (60s) in information sent to Garda

Gardaí investigating the murder of Annie McCarrick have brought in a cadaver dog in the search of a house in Clondalkin. A man in his 60s, originally from Dublin, was arrested and remains in Garda custody. Human remains are being searched for at the site in Clondalkin, with the suspect flagged as a possible suspect in the case since 1993.

Friends of Ms. McCarrick had concerns about the man and his interactions with her in Dublin. They provided detailed concerns in fax messages to the Garda investigation team, believing their information was not properly handled. The suspect, a successful businessman, was arrested and his house searched, along with a property in Clondalkin linked to him.

The Clondalkin property, renovated by current occupants, is unrelated to the case. Ms. McCarrick's friends had reported sightings of her in 1993, leading to an unsolved missing person's inquiry until it was upgraded to a murder investigation two years ago. Recent focus has been on the arrested man as the main suspect.

Further investigations include interviewing a close associate of the suspect, believed to have been with him when Ms. McCarrick vanished. The case began in March 1993 when Ms. McCarrick, from Long Island, New York, went missing from her rented accommodation in Sandymount. The US lawyer representing the McCarrick family expressed hope for a resolution.

Michael Griffith, the lawyer, criticized An Garda Síochána for lack of engagement after the disappearance. Despite efforts to follow leads, the Garda was reluctant to share information. Family liaison officers are appointed in major cases, with hopes for a resolution in the long-standing case of Annie McCarrick.
