Sport Singapore (SportSG), the Housing and Development Board (HDB), and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) announced that the Kallang Basin Swimming Complex and St Wilfred Sport Centre will be closing in the second half of 2025 when their leases expire. The swimming complex at 21 Geylang Bahru Lane will shut down on Sep 1, while the St Wilfred site in Whampoa will close on Oct 1.
Both locations provide ActiveSG sports facilities, with St Wilfred currently offering a tennis centre, squash centre, and a football field. The swimming complex also includes a gym. Plans are underway to potentially redevelop both sites for public housing, as confirmed by SportSG, HDB, and URA.
The decision to close these facilities is part of the government's efforts to address the increasing demand for housing in recent years. The agencies emphasized that the government will continue to develop and enhance sports infrastructure in collaboration with the community to meet the changing lifestyle and recreational needs of Singapore.
