Vishwash Kumar Ramesh says he thought he was dead as plane exploded but escaped through opening in fuselage

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British survivor of the recent Air India plane crash, vividly described the traumatic experience of witnessing people dying right in front of him. He initially thought he was dead when the plane collided with a building, but miraculously managed to escape through an opening in the fuselage.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Ramesh shared that the aircraft felt 'stuck in the air' shortly after takeoff, with lights flickering green and white before crashing into a building and exploding. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 241 individuals on board, making it one of the deadliest plane crashes involving British nationals and the first involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Ramesh expressed disbelief at his survival, recounting the moment when he thought he was going to die but then realized he was still alive. He recalled the harrowing experience of witnessing others perish before his eyes, including air hostesses and fellow passengers. Despite the chaos, he managed to free himself, crawl out through the fuselage opening, and escape the wreckage.

The crash site was visited by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who interacted with Ramesh at the hospital. Tragically, the incident claimed the lives of at least five medical students and left around 50 others injured. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, with speculations ranging from engine failure to incorrect wing flap settings.

Notable British casualties in the crash included a couple running a spiritual wellness center, as well as members of various communities who lost their lives. Aviation experts continue to analyze the incident, while the Air India chief executive visited the site without addressing the media. The Foreign Office has urged British nationals requiring assistance to contact the designated helpline for support.
