Immediately after takeoff is a critical phase in aviation that pilots are trained to handle with precision, according to air safety experts analyzing the recent Air India crash. The incident involved flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat, India, with 242 passengers on board.
Tragically, only one passenger is believed to have survived the crash, which also claimed the lives of students in a nearby medical hostel. While the exact chain of events leading to the crash is yet to be determined, observers highlighted that the experienced pilots, with a combined flying experience of over 9,000 hours, issued a distress call shortly after takeoff.
Aviation safety consultant Michael Daniel emphasized the significance of this phase, stating, "It's very rare because this is one of the crucial phases of flight where the pilots are heavily trained on – takeoff and landing." The pilot's mayday call raises questions that can only be answered through a thorough analysis of the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder.
