Latest Arsenal transfer news with several major Viktor Gyokeres claims made after a turbulent 48 hours at Sporting CP

Arsenal is preparing to make an improved offer for Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres after their initial proposal was turned down, according to reports in Portugal.

Gyokeres, who scored 54 goals during the 2024/25 season, has emerged as one of Mikel Arteta's top striker targets following a successful campaign with Sporting CP. The club's president, Frederico Varandas, has denied claims of a gentleman's agreement that would allow the player to leave for £60 million (€70m).

Varandas stated, "I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60+€10m (in add-ons) because I never promised him that. To this day, Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres, neither today nor last season."

Reports suggest that Sporting CP now wants at least £67.4 million (€80m) for Gyokeres, a figure that the player is not pleased with. Despite rumors of a bid from Arsenal totaling £55 million (€65m) with add-ons, the Gunners are reportedly preparing a new offer that could exceed £59.7 million (€70m) to meet Sporting's demands.

While talks have taken place regarding Gyokeres, Arsenal's pursuit of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko remains a priority. The final decision on which striker to pursue is yet to be made.
