Friends of missing woman outlined their concerns about the man (60s) in information sent to Garda

Gardaí are currently investigating the murder of Annie McCarrick and have introduced a cadaver dog to search a house in Clondalkin. A man in his 60s from Dublin was arrested and remains in Garda custody. The search for Ms. McCarrick's remains or evidence intensified when a cadaver dog was brought to the site on Friday.

The man arrested was identified as a possible suspect in the case shortly after McCarrick disappeared from Sandymount, South Dublin in 1993. Friends of McCarrick had expressed concerns about the man and his interactions with her in Dublin. They communicated these concerns to the Garda investigation team through fax messages, but felt that their information was not adequately addressed during the initial inquiry.

The suspect, a successful businessman living outside Dublin, was arrested on Thursday morning. His home was searched, and a house in Clondalkin linked to him was sealed off for searching and excavation. The current occupants of the property are not connected to Ms. McCarrick or the ongoing murder investigation.

McCarrick, originally from Long Island, New York, was living in Sandymount when she disappeared in 1993. The case remained unsolved until it was reclassified as a murder investigation two years ago. Detectives have since focused on the arrested man as the primary suspect and have interviewed a close associate of his who was with him around the time of McCarrick's disappearance.

Michael Griffith, the US lawyer representing McCarrick's family, expressed satisfaction with the recent arrest and remains hopeful for a resolution in the case. He criticized the Garda for their lack of communication and cooperation with him and others involved in the investigation after McCarrick's disappearance.
