A mother in Dublin has made the decision to temporarily remove her eight-year-old son from school due to concerns about nearby anti-immigration demonstrations.

Andreea-Claudia Calin took her son out of Canal Way Educate Together School in Dublin 8, where protestors have been gathering during drop-off and pick-up times.

During an interview on RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne, Ms. Calin expressed that the protests began in response to a Government initiative to renovate a nearby IPAS center.

She mentioned that the protests were not being conducted appropriately and that an email regarding a knife incident at a neighboring school was the final straw for her.

Ms. Calin shared that her son was feeling anxious and questioned the presence of a tent outside the school, leading her to keep him home out of fear.

Concerns about the potential escalation of the situation have left parents and the local community uneasy about upsetting the protestors.

While the school principal has made efforts to address the issue by arranging for a police car to be stationed outside during drop-off and pick-up times, Ms. Calin remains apprehensive about the future.

She emphasized the abnormality of the situation and expressed worries about the organized protests gaining momentum.

Despite her son missing his friends and school, Ms. Calin mentioned that the teacher has been assisting with home-based learning, although it presents its challenges.

Reflecting on her experiences in Greece, Ms. Calin expressed concerns about the hostile environment towards immigrants that she witnessed in the past.

She has reached out to local representatives about the situation at her son's school but has not received any responses, highlighting the lack of public awareness about the impact on children and families.

Ms. Calin urged the Government to engage with all parties involved to find a resolution and expressed her desire for her son to return to school.

The principal of Canal Way Educate Together School acknowledged the challenges faced and emphasized the school's efforts to address the situation while seeking support from various stakeholders.

Efforts to engage with authorities and relevant organizations have been made to ensure the well-being of the school community amidst the ongoing protests.

Despite these efforts, the tent structure near the school gate remains, and the protests continue, prompting concerns about the safety and peace of the school environment.

A recent incident involving an alleged assault and public disorder further underscores the need for a swift and respectful resolution to the ongoing tensions.
