A former NFL wide receiver, Antonio Brown, is facing an arrest warrant for attempted murder with a firearm after a shooting incident at a celebrity boxing event in Miami on May 16. The warrant requires Brown to post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest until trial.
Antonio Brown, 36, who played for 12 seasons in the NFL, has not responded to attempts to reach him for comment. It is unclear if he has legal representation at this time. The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office declined to provide any comments regarding the case.
Brown, a Miami native, attended Miami Norland High School and had a successful NFL career playing for teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He won a Super Bowl championship with the Buccaneers and caught a touchdown pass during Super Bowl LV.
The incident in Miami took place outside a boxing event hosted by influencer Adin Ross in the Little Haiti neighborhood. Miami police confirmed that they investigated the incident on the night of May 16, but no arrests were made. Brown was briefly detained and later released.
After the incident, Brown took to social media to claim that he was attacked by individuals trying to steal his jewelry. Video footage obtained by Miami police detectives shows Brown punching a man and later taking a gun from a security officer before running towards the man he had struck. Cellphone video captured the sound of two gunshots during the altercation.
This is not the first controversy involving Antonio Brown, who has had a successful career as a four-time All-Pro player. He led the NFL in various receiving categories during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and has had stints with the Raiders and Patriots.
In 2020, Brown pleaded no contest to felony charges related to an incident with a moving truck company. He received probation and community service as part of his sentence. Brown played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but left the team during a game in 2021.
