The chief of Northern Ireland's Housing Executive expressed concern over the safety of families in their homes after four nights of violence left 63 officers injured. The unrest began in Ballymena, Co Antrim, and escalated to Portadown in Co Armagh, where missiles were thrown at officers during a protest.
In Coleraine, a family with young children had to be evacuated from their home due to a fire, which is being investigated as a racially-motivated hate crime by the PSNI. Liam Kelly, Chair of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland, called the recent events a 'week of shame' and urged an end to attacks on officers.
Health Minister Mike Nesbitt condemned the violence, stating that it has left international Health & Social Care workers feeling 'frightened and vulnerable'. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage also commented on the unrest in Ballymena, describing the riots as 'ugly' and expressing frustration that his warnings about immigration had been disregarded.
Despite mainly peaceful protests, sporadic disorder erupted in various parts of Northern Ireland on Thursday night, including the Templemore Avenue area of east Belfast.
