Legendary actor and Academy Awards winner Sean Connery turned down a film which won its star an Oscar as the James Bond actor called it a 'disgusting' role.

The iconic actor Sean Connery made a bold decision to decline a movie role that could have potentially earned him an Academy Award due to its 'disgusting' nature.

Connery, who sadly passed away in 2020 at the age of 90, had an impressive career with notable roles such as James Bond and his award-winning performance in The Untouchables. Despite being offered roles in some of the greatest films of all time, Connery rejected one particular role that ended up winning multiple Oscars.

A Reddit post revealed that Connery turned down roles such as Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs, John Hammond in Jurassic Park, Morpheus in The Matrix, Dumbledore in Harry Potter, and Gandalf in Lord of the Rings. Specifically, he found the Hannibal Lecter role 'disgusting' and declined the opportunity.

Director Jonathan Demme confirmed that they had considered Connery for the role of Hannibal Lecter, but he refused, stating that he found the part 'disgusting.' This decision ultimately led to Anthony Hopkins taking on the role and winning a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Silence of the Lambs.

Fans of Connery were relieved by his choice as they believed his portrayal of the character would have drastically altered the tone of the film. Hopkins' portrayal of Hannibal Lecter was widely praised and earned him critical acclaim.
