Manchester United is exploring a £42m alternative to Bryan Mbeumo as Tottenham threatens to hijack their move for the Brentford star. The Red Devils recently secured Matheus Cunha's signing after triggering his £62.5m release clause and had a bid for Mbeumo rejected. Despite Mbeumo's interest in joining United, Thomas Frank's move to Tottenham has complicated matters.

Tottenham reportedly made an improved bid of £65m upfront with £5m in add-ons for the 25-year-old forward, who has one year left on his contract. While Mbeumo still prefers a move to United, Spurs see him as a statement signing for Frank's first summer in charge and are determined to secure his transfer.

United, however, are considering alternative options to complement Cunha in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 formation. They are now eyeing Justin Kluivert, who scored 12 goals for Bournemouth last season. The Cherries have placed a £42m price tag on the 26-year-old, whom they signed from Roma in 2023. While Bournemouth values Kluivert highly, they may be open to selling if the right offer comes in.

Manchester United has long admired Kluivert and sees him as a versatile attacking option. With a focus on bolstering their attack this summer, Kluivert remains on their radar. Newcastle, Liverpool, and Tottenham are also monitoring Kluivert's situation as they consider potential moves depending on other squad developments.

In addition to pursuing Kluivert, United is keen on signing a new striker. They have entered the race for Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike along with Chelsea and Liverpool. Director of Football Jason Wilcox is in talks with Sporting to secure Viktor Gyokeres, another top target for United. Despite Gyokeres' desire to leave, negotiations are ongoing to reach a suitable agreement.
