Sunjay Kapur, a 53-year-old businessman from Delhi and the chairman of automotive giant Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12 due to a heart attack after swallowing a bee during a polo match. He left behind a net worth of $1.2 billion, making him one of the World’s Billionaires in 2022. Kapur was known for his passion for polo and had played with members of the British royal family, including Prince William.

At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated at $1.2 billion (₹10,300 crore) by Forbes. Sunjay Kapur took over Sona Comstar in 2015 after his father's passing. Under his leadership, the family business evolved into a global auto parts manufacturer brand. The company, named after his grandfather's jewellery business, saw a significant increase in revenue driven by the growing demand for electric vehicle parts.

Sona Comstar, headquartered in Gurugram, operates 12 manufacturing facilities and employs over 5,000 people across India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the USA. The company's revenue surged by 12% to ₹35.5 billion in the previous financial year, with 36% of the income coming from electric vehicle components.

After divorcing his first wife, Sunjay Kapur married Karisma Kapoor on September 29, 2003. The couple had two children together. However, they separated in 2016, and Kapur later remarried former model Priya Sachdev. Kapur was active on social media until his passing, expressing condolences for the victims of the Ahmedabad Air India crash shortly before his death.
