Three hundred inmates from New Bilibid Prison (NBP) located in Muntinlupa City were relocated to Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Friday, June 13.

The move was part of NBP's decongestion program as it transitions into a government center, according to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

BuCor stated that the transfer aims to support the agricultural initiatives of its operating prison and penal farms, which rely on inmates for their programs and rehabilitation.

Following this transfer, a total of 11,227 inmates have been moved to other facilities outside of NBP.

The operation was carried out by approximately 100 corrections officers, including members of the escort unit and the Philippine National Police.

BuCor Director General Gregorio P. Catapang Jr. emphasized the importance of collaboration among various government agencies in ensuring the safety of the inmates and upholding public order.
