Grenfell Tower Prepares for Deconstruction as Families Seek Justice

Bereaved families and survivors say want to "see justice" before work begins to take down the tower.

Raymond 'Moses' Bernard, a resident of Grenfell Tower for over 30 years, tragically passed away while trying to save his neighbors during the devastating blaze. His sister, Bernie Bernard, expresses her concerns about the upcoming deconstruction of the tower, which holds sentimental value as her brother's resting place.

Bernie is worried that Raymond's flat, where he lost his life, will be among the first to be dismantled. She believes that while the tower needs to be taken down, it should be done respectfully and only after justice has been served.

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner announced earlier this year the decision to demolish the tower completely. However, Bernie and other families are urging for the structure to remain until the criminal case is resolved and prosecutions have been made.

Family friend Jackie Leger finds hope in the tower and the green hearts displayed in remembrance. Bernie has requested Ms. Rayner to reconsider and preserve at least some parts of the tower, such as the reception area.

Both Bernie and Jackie emphasize the emotional toll that the demolition will have on the community, especially the families affected by the tragedy.
