With the aim of sharing their methods for supporting bees with the world, Paul Handrick and family are expanding the mission of their bee sanctuary.

Thirteen. An unlucky number for most, but could it be a lucky number for bees and the planet? Paul Handrick and his family bought a small farm in a village on the Wicklow/Wexford border 13 years ago. This farm has now transformed into the ambitious World Bee Sanctuary, aiming to make a global impact in supporting bees.

World Bee Sanctuary is the expanded mission of The Bee Sanctuary of Ireland, the world's first true Native Wild Bee sanctuary established in 2017. Set on 55 acres of certified vegan organic land, this sanctuary has changed the standard for wild bee advocacy and reached millions worldwide.

Around 40% of bee species are endangered globally, with 25% missing since the 1990s. The decline in bee numbers continues at a rate of 5% per year. The sanctuary emphasizes the importance of understanding the impact of human actions on bees and the environment.

Honey bees, while not endangered, contribute to the decline of native wild bees. The sanctuary highlights the harmful effects of chemicals used on flowers marketed to 'Save the Bees'. The food choices and production methods of humans have been major drivers in the decline of bees and the ecosystem.

World Bee Sanctuary stresses the need for a global effort to address the challenges faced by bees. While personal responsibility is crucial, unified global action is necessary. The sanctuary urges individuals to take action and support initiatives that prioritize the well-being of bees and the planet.

The vision of World Bee Sanctuary is to establish sanctuaries worldwide that promote the coexistence of bees, nature, and humans. The sanctuary's new website, worldbeesanctuary.org, aims to raise funds and build a network to create these sanctuaries across the globe.

By supporting World Bee Sanctuary, individuals can contribute to the establishment of sanctuaries that prioritize the well-being of bees and nature. These sanctuaries will be independent, purposeful, and impactful, free from external influences that may dilute their mission.

If you are passionate about saving bees and want to see a World Bee Sanctuary near you, visit the website and get involved in supporting this important mission. Together, we can make a difference for bees and the planet!
