Israel says Iran has fired up to 100 missiles in retaliation for surprise assault while fresh explosions reported at airport in Tehran

Following a surprise aerial assault by Israel, Iranian missiles have targeted Tel Aviv in retaliation, with Tehran promising further attacks and fresh explosions reported in the Iranian capital. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of more strikes to come, emphasizing that efforts to dismantle Iran's nuclear program were just beginning.

Late on Friday, both Iran and Israel reported additional waves of missile attacks, with explosions heard over Jerusalem. In Tehran, residents witnessed fresh explosions as Iran's state news agency, IRNA, confirmed further Israeli strikes. Fars news agency reported that two missiles hit Tehran's Mehrabad airport, causing flames to erupt in the vicinity.

According to an Israeli military spokesperson, Iran launched up to 100 missiles in multiple waves, most of which were intercepted or missed their targets. However, several missiles managed to breach Israel's defenses, leading to mid-air explosions in Tel Aviv as the Arrow missile defense systems engaged the Iranian arsenal.

Smoke and debris filled the Tel Aviv skyline as one missile struck a residential building, causing injuries and damage. Israel's ambulance service reported 34 injuries, with one fatality. The barrage of attacks followed a televised address from Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who vowed to retaliate against Israel.

Iran's envoy to the UN Security Council stated that 78 people, including senior officials, were killed in the Israeli strikes, with over 320 injured. Netanyahu claimed that Israel had successfully targeted key military and nuclear facilities, weakening Iran's capabilities.

Further explosions were reported in Iran, indicating a potential escalation of hostilities. The focus of Israeli attacks was primarily on Iran's uranium enrichment plant at Natanz, with significant damage reported. The US role in the conflict remains uncertain, with President Donald Trump expressing support for Israel's actions.

As tensions rise in the region, the prospect of a full-scale war looms, with both Israel and Iran prepared for further confrontations. The situation is evolving rapidly, with the international community closely monitoring developments.
