Queen Camilla received a grand gesture from her husband King Charles after facing a tough last year when it came to her health battles. The monarch, who is set to grant special honours on the occasion of his official birthday, made a key addition in acknowledgement of the support his wife received as she battled pneumonia.

Members of the royal medical team and household staff have received recognition in the King’s Birthday Honours, which fall under the Royal Victorian Order. The awards are considered a personal gift from the monarch. Camilla’s personal physician, Dr Nicholas Hugh, and a senior consultant for King Charles, Dr Ranan Dasgupta, are among the honourees.

Dr Hugh holds the position of Apothecary to the Queen, has been appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order. Meanwhile, Dr Dasgupta, consultant urologist at King Edward VII's Hospital who has been serving when the King was diagnosed with cancer, has been given the same honour.

Charles’s cancer was identified in January 2024 as he underwent procedure for his enlarged prostrate. However, the announcement about his diagnoses was made in February. Meanwhile, Camilla was forced to pull out of key engagements at the end of last year after the royal couple had returned from their hectic state visit to Australia and Samoa.

In November, Buckingham Palace had revealed that Camilla was suffering with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest. A month later, during the Qatar State Visit at the Palace, the Queen shared that he was experiencing episodic symptoms of post-viral fatigue from the chest infection, which was a form of pneumonia.
