Gardaí search at house in Clondalkin has included excavation and use of a cadaver dog

Gardaí have been searching a house in Clondalkin, west Dublin as part of their investigation into the disappearance of Annie McCarrick in 1993. The search is ongoing after the main suspect, a businessman in his 60s who knew McCarrick well, was released without charge. He denies any involvement in her disappearance or murder.

The man was questioned for 24 hours following his arrest and his home was searched. Despite his release, the search at the house where excavation and the use of a cadaver dog have taken place is set to continue.

Before his release, the man was met by photographers and TV crews outside Irishtown Garda station. Gardaí have been using various tools like diggers and a cadaver dog to search the property in Clondalkin.

Skips with construction waste were seen outside the house before the search began, but nothing related to McCarrick was found during recent renovation work. The search and arrest were pre-planned as the suspect was linked to the house, although the current owners have no connection to the case.

The suspect was known to McCarrick and was flagged as a possible suspect early on. Friends of McCarrick had expressed concerns about him, but their information was not properly handled during the initial inquiry. However, the man became the key suspect in recent years, especially after the case was upgraded to a murder investigation.

Gardaí are also interested in a close associate of the suspect, with whom they believe he was together when McCarrick disappeared. The investigation into McCarrick's disappearance, who was last seen in March 1993, continues as authorities work to uncover the truth behind her case.
