The recent passing of industrialist Sunjay Kapur at the age of 53 has left a lasting impact on the business and entertainment industries. Known not just as Karisma Kapoor's former spouse, Sunjay was a prominent figure in the business world, heading a massive $4 billion empire.

Sunjay Kapoor's Impressive Net Worth

Forbes reported that Sunjay Kapur had a net worth of $1.2 billion (₹10300 crore) at the time of his passing. His peak wealth was valued at $1.6 billion (₹13000 crore) in 2022 and 2024. This staggering fortune placed him ahead of many Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, India's wealthiest actor with a net worth of $880 million (₹7700 crore). Even the entire Kapoor family, his former in-laws, had a combined net worth of around ₹2000 crore, a fraction of Sunjay's wealth. Karisma Kapoor's net worth is estimated at ₹120 crore.

Sunjay Kapur's Business Empire

Sunjay Kapur served as the chairman of Sona Comstar, an auto components manufacturer. Established in 1997 by his late father Surinder Kapur, a trailblazer in India's auto components sector, the company's name was inspired by Sunjay's grandfather's jewelry business. Following his father's passing in 2015, Sunjay took over as the company's managing director and oversaw its expansion into China, Mexico, Serbia, and the U.S. According to Bloomberg, Sona Comstar boasts a market cap of ₹31000 crore, nearly $4 billion.

Legacy and Passing

Tragically, Sunjay Kapur passed away after suffering a heart attack during a polo match in London at the age of 53. He was previously married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003-2016, with whom he shares two children. Before that, he was married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani from 1996-2000. Since 2017, Sunjay had been married to model and actor Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son.
