Leila de Lima denounced the move of the Senate sitting as an impeachment court to return to the House of Representatives the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Leila de Lima, the Representative-elect of ML Party-list, criticized the Senate's move to return the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte back to the House of Representatives.

In a statement, de Lima expressed her disappointment, accusing the Senate of lacking due process and shame in handling the case.

The Senate voted with 18 in favor, five against, and zero abstentions to return the Articles of Impeachment to the lower chamber without dismissing them.

De Lima questioned whether this was a court or a cult, emphasizing the lack of justice and transparency in the process.

Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa initially proposed to dismiss the verified impeachment complaint due to constitutional issues, but the Senate President ruled that the impeachment court should convene first.

After a lengthy debate, Senator-judge Alan Peter Cayetano suggested returning the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives without terminating the case.

De Lima criticized this decision, highlighting the importance of allowing both sides to speak and seeking justice for the people.

Senate President Escudero stated that the House of Representatives must accept the Articles of Impeachment following the Senate's decision.

The House of Representatives certified the impeachment process as compliant with the 1987 Constitution.

De Lima expressed her disappointment, stating that justice was not served and likening the situation to a public market where truth is scarce.

She commended the senators who opposed the return of the Articles of Impeachment and emphasized the importance of accountability and truth in the country.

De Lima vowed to continue fighting for truth and justice outside the Senate halls with the people who believe in upholding accountability.

Vice President Duterte was impeached on charges of betrayal of public trust, constitutional violations, graft, corruption, and other high crimes.

Duterte dismissed the impeachment process as political retaliation and referred to the trial as a "crucifixion."
