CM Shah presents Rs3.45 trillion deficit budget

The Sindh government, led by the PPP, has revealed a budget of Rs3,451.87 billion for the fiscal year 2025-2026, marking a 12.9% increase from the previous year. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presented the budget in the Sindh Assembly, highlighting a deficit of Rs38.458 billion.

Shah announced a 12% salary increase for government employees in grades 1 to 16, a 10% raise for officers in grades 17 to 22, and an 8% increase in pensions. He emphasized the reduction and elimination of certain taxes and levies in the finance bill.

The budget focuses on allocating more funds to education, health, infrastructure, and social welfare, while also aiming to modernize governance and boost economic growth. Total expenditure is expected to rise by 12.9% to Rs3,450 billion, with significant increases in key sectors.

Key allocations include Rs189.75 billion for the police department (up by 15.7%), Rs336.46 billion for the health sector (up by 11.3%), and Rs518.05 billion for education (up by 18%). Additionally, Rs20 billion has been earmarked for Pro-Poor Social Protection and Economic Sustainability Initiatives.

To enhance transparency, education funds will be directly disbursed to schools. A total of Rs702 billion in grants-in-aid has been allocated for various government and non-financial institutions based on directives from the Chief Minister's Secretariat and the Finance Department.
