Minnesota Governor Tim Walz reported that a Democratic state lawmaker and her husband were killed in what seemed to be a politically motivated assassination, while another lawmaker and his spouse were injured in a separate incident.

According to Governor Walz, Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were tragically shot and killed in the early hours of Saturday. He described the events as an 'unspeakable tragedy' and mourned the loss of a great leader.

Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also victims of the attacks, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. Fortunately, they underwent surgery and are expected to survive the assassination attempt, as per Governor Walz.

The suspect managed to flee the scene after a shootout with law enforcement authorities. A manifesto containing the names of several lawmakers and officials was discovered inside the suspect's vehicle, revealed the police chief for Brooklyn Park.

During a press conference, Governor Walz emphasized the need to condemn all forms of political violence and assured that those responsible for the attacks will face consequences.
