A fire erupted at a 67-storey residential tower in Dubai Marina, leading to the evacuation of nearly 4,000 residents. The incident caused chaos as residents claimed that fire alarms did not go off, leaving them unaware of the danger until they saw smoke or received alerts from others.
Reports indicate that residents faced moments of fear and confusion as stairwells filled with thick smoke, forcing some to take the risk of using elevators to escape. Many evacuees were left stranded outside overnight, unsure of where to seek refuge.
One resident shared their experience, stating, "My wife and I were on the 24th floor when we noticed a burning smell around 9:45 pm. We checked our apartment but found nothing wrong. It was only when we saw firefighters and a crowd outside from our balcony that we realized the severity of the situation. After contacting security, we were instructed to evacuate."
Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures. While there have been no reported fatalities, officials have not disclosed any information regarding injuries or the fire's cause. This incident has raised significant concerns about fire safety protocols in tall buildings throughout Dubai.
Many residents have questioned the effectiveness of alarm systems and the lack of timely communication from building management. Investigations are ongoing to determine the fire's origin and evaluate the tower's compliance with safety regulations. Authorities are also coordinating efforts to offer temporary housing and support to those displaced by the fire.
