Driver Arrested for DUI After Van Crash in Jurong

A 44-year-old driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence after his van skidded and crashed in Jurong in the early hours of June 14. The authorities were notified of the incident on Yung Ho Road towards Jalan Tukang at 1:05 am on June 14. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) assessed a person for minor injuries, but they declined hospitalization. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

In a video shared on SGRV's Facebook page, a grey van is seen departing from a traffic junction as the light changes to green. The van then swerves between lanes before mounting the kerb outside a Certis Cisco building. A concerned driver and two individuals wearing helmets rush to the van, which is emitting thick white smoke.

The van driver was later apprehended, and police investigations are currently underway. The Traffic Police noted an increase in DUI arrests from 1,663 in 2023 to 1,778 in 2024. Additionally, the number of fatal accidents attributed to drink driving rose from 11 cases in 2023 to 12 cases in 2024.
