Irish guitarist Rory Gallagher was commemorated in Cork on the 30th anniversary of his passing. Taoiseach Micheál Martin named a roadway at Cork Airport as Rory Gallagher Avenue and unveiled a plaque to honor the musician's ties to the facility.

Mr. Martin praised Gallagher as an iconic figure whose influence endures three decades after his death. The guitarist's family, including his brother Donal, expressed their gratitude for the recognition.

Belgian guitarist Jacques Stotzem, a devoted fan of Gallagher, performed a selection of the late musician's greatest hits at the ceremony. Gallagher, known as one of the greatest guitarists in history, passed away in 1995 at the age of 47.

Cork City Council arranged a 'Rock for Rory' festival to celebrate his legacy, with special exhibitions planned at Cork Library. The highlight will be a series of concerts at the Live At The Marquee festival, featuring US guitarist Joe Bonamassa playing Rory's 1974 tour setlist.

Mr. Martin recalled hosting a reception for Gallagher during his time as Lord Mayor of Cork, highlighting the musician's humility and impact. He supported efforts to keep Gallagher's famous Stratocaster guitar in Ireland, which was eventually acquired by the National Museum of Ireland.

Joe Bonamassa, a lifelong fan of Gallagher, will lead tribute shows in July replicating Rory's iconic performances. Promoter Peter Aiken emphasized Gallagher's influence on music history, especially for his role in promoting unity through music during challenging times.

Rory Gallagher's legacy continues to inspire musicians worldwide, with his unique guitar and music style leaving an indelible mark on the rock and blues genres.
