Former Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, shared insights on the Ahmedabad plane crash that occurred on June 12, stating that the engine of the Air India aircraft lost power at a critical stage, leaving no room for recovery. Raha mentioned various potential causes for the crash, including fuel contamination, software glitches, and control system issues.
Dismissing the sabotage theory, Raha emphasized the importance of waiting for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to complete their investigation before drawing conclusions. The tragic incident resulted in the loss of 241 out of 242 passengers on board, along with casualties on the ground.
Raha highlighted the rare occurrence of both engines losing power simultaneously on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. He also mentioned the role of ground staff in certifying the weight of the aircraft before takeoff.
While addressing the ICC event, Raha stressed the importance of manufacturing aircraft engines domestically. He urged for a comprehensive probe into the incident, considering factors such as software issues, fuel contamination, and control system malfunctions.
