Shane Lowry summed up his US Open experience as a "weird" couple of days after missing the cut by a wide margin at a punishing Oakmont course.

Shane Lowry described his time at the US Open as 'weird' after failing to make the cut by a significant margin at the tough Oakmont course.

Lowry faced an uphill battle after an opening round of 79 on Thursday, followed by a 78 on Friday, leaving him tied for 134th place at 17 over par.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport's Greg Allen, Lowry expressed his disappointment at the lack of luck he experienced over the two rounds, despite some aspects of his game being satisfactory.

He admitted, 'I drove well off the tee but struggled on the greens and made too many mistakes, resulting in a couple of doubles. It was a strange couple of days at Oakmont.'

Lowry acknowledged that this disappointing performance came in a season where he had been achieving good results, making it a frustrating setback.

Reflecting on his game, Lowry said, 'I felt good coming into the tournament, but after this week, it's time to reevaluate and start afresh.'

Despite the challenges he faced, Lowry managed to find humor in his mistake on the 14th green, where he picked up his ball without marking it, leading to a penalty.

Looking ahead, Lowry is set to participate in the Travelers Championship in Connecticut before enjoying a three-week break back home in Ireland.
