MHA Loyola O’Driscoll, representing Ferryland, has expressed strong criticism towards the government for its handling of highway safety issues. O’Driscoll has been in contact with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure since last fall regarding the lack of brush cutting along highways, but his concerns have not been addressed.

According to O’Driscoll, the current state of highways has made it challenging for drivers to react in time to avoid colliding with animals. He shared a story from a Baltimore High graduation ceremony where an individual mentioned that they narrowly missed hitting a moose in LaManche Park by driving well below the speed limit at 50 km/h.
