Over the weekend, police in Cagayan discovered two sacks of suspected shabu floating on the shoreline of Barangay Centro 6, Claveria. The contraband was found by two fishermen who promptly turned it over to local authorities, led by Police Major Mario Maragun.

An inventory and marking of the evidence were conducted in the presence of barangay officials, media representatives, and Erwin Geron Sr., assistant provincial prosecutor. Initial examination indicated that the contents were a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.

The seized items are currently under the custody of the Claveria police station and will soon be handed over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Regional Office 2 for further analysis and documentation.

Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag Jr., the chief of Police Regional Office-2, commended the efforts of both the public and law enforcement in securing the illegal drugs. Authorities are now working to determine the source of the contraband and its possible connection to similar findings in the Ilocos region.
