Police officers went to Irwin Street in Werrington on Sunday after a passer-by spotted the body in a remote part of the reserve and called triple-0.

An investigation is currently ongoing after a body was discovered in a reserve in Western Sydney on Sunday. Police officers responded to Irwin Street in Werrington following a report from a passer-by who found the body in a secluded area of the reserve and alerted authorities.

According to Detective Superintendent Trent King, the body is believed to be that of a middle-aged woman and had been there for some time. While there were items near the body, it was not wrapped, consisting of clothing items and other debris.

Forensic officers are currently at the scene as part of Strike Force Dowerin, which includes Nepean detectives and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad. The Missing Persons Unit is also involved in the investigation.

Superintendent King emphasized that it is too early to determine if there were any injuries or signs of foul play, and the involvement of homicide detectives is necessary until the cause of death is established. A police tent has been set up at the crime scene, indicating the area where the body was found.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
