The National Electrification Administration (NEA) announced over the weekend that power has been successfully restored in the Siquijor Province, meeting the deadline set by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

In a statement issued through the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the NEA revealed that repairs on power generator sets of the Siquijor Island Power Corp. (SIPCOR) were expedited. Additionally, a generator set from the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) was transported and installed to aid in the restoration process.

With the help of rental generator sets from SIPCOR, the dependable capacity was increased to 11 megawatts (MW), exceeding the province’s peak demand of 9 MW. There is also a reserve of 1.65 MW for contingencies.

The NEA emphasized its commitment to monitoring the power situation in Siquijor to ensure that residents, businesses, and schools have access to reliable electricity in the coming days and weeks.

As part of its mission, the NEA works to promote sustainable rural electrification and support electric cooperatives in providing electricity to rural and economically challenged areas.

Earlier this month, the provincial government of Siquijor declared a state of calamity due to the power crisis, which led to rotational brownouts since May 13, 2025. In response, President Marcos instructed NEA administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda to restore stable power supply to the province by June 15, 2025, and imposed a six-month deadline for short-term solutions to address the crisis.

President Marcos recently visited the SIPCOR power plant in the province to assess the situation and ordered an investigation into SIPCOR’s operations. He also expressed openness to the idea of introducing another power provider in the province.
