Billionaire businessman Sunjay Kapur passed away in London, causing a succession crisis at Sona Comstar. Here's a look at who is likely to take over management, and what his children may inherit from the ₹10,300 crore auto parts maker.

The unexpected passing of billionaire businessman Sunjay Kapur in London at the age of 53 has brought about a succession dilemma at his auto parts company Sona Comstar, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Having taken the helm of the empire in 2015 following his father Dr. Surinder Kapur's demise, Sunjay Kapur led Sona Comstar to a market capitalization exceeding ₹10,300 crore, according to Bloomberg.

In a statement released on June 13, the company acknowledged Sunjay Kapur's death and reassured stakeholders that 'our operations and prospects remain unchanged as we honor his legacy'.

Known to the public as the former spouse of actress Karisma Kapoor, the couple was married from 2003 to 2016 and share two children - 20-year-old Samaira and 14-year-old Kiaan. Sunjay Kapur also has a 6-year-old son named Azarias with his third wife Priya Sachdev, in addition to being previously married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani from 1996 to 2000.

Currently, there are no indications of Sunjay Kapur's children taking on leadership roles within the company. Reports from India Today suggest that his sisters are likely to assume management positions, although there has been no official confirmation from Sona Comstar regarding this.

With a personal wealth of ₹10,300 crore, Sunjay Kapur, a US citizen, entered the ranks of the World's Billionaires in 2022. Forbes reported his net worth at the time of his passing to be $1.2 billion. The majority of this fortune is derived from Sona Comstar, headquartered in Gurugram, which operates 12 manufacturing facilities and employs over 5,000 individuals in India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the US. The company has experienced significant growth within the electric vehicle (EV) sector in recent years.

According to Hindustan Times, as per legal regulations, the management of Sunjay Kapur's estate will be transferred to his wife Priya Sachdev. However, as part of his legacy planning, his children Samaira and Kiaan have each received bonds valued at ₹14 crore and a monthly stipend of ₹10 lakh.
