The man who allegedly assassinated a US senator and attempted to kill another had a list of dozens of different targets in his car, police say.

Authorities in Minnesota are intensifying their search for a suspect accused of assassinating a US senator and attempting to kill another, revealing that the perpetrator had a list of potential targets in his possession.

Over the weekend, Minnesota senator Melissa Hortman and her husband were tragically killed in their home, while another senator, John Hoffman, and his wife were shot multiple times at their residence just a few kilometers away.

The suspect, identified as 57-year-old Vance Boelter, is still at large as law enforcement officials work tirelessly to track him down.

According to Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley, the gunman's vehicle contained a manifesto and a list of targets, including Democratic politicians, doctors, community leaders, and business owners, as well as locations for healthcare centers like Planned Parenthood.

Police are reaching out to individuals on the list to alert them of potential risks.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and seeing a suspicious vehicle fleeing the scene after the attacks, with one witness mistaking the perpetrator for a police officer.

Mr. Boelter allegedly impersonated law enforcement to gain access to the victims' homes, leading to the tragic incidents.

Political rallies in the area have been canceled as the manhunt for the suspect continues, with authorities cautioning residents against attending any public gatherings until the situation is resolved.

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation, and the FBI is offering a reward for information leading to Mr. Boelter's arrest.
