Despite the rise of Monkey pox virus (Mpox) cases in the Philippines, the situation is under control and the country is not included in the public health emergency of international concern issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to the Department of Health on Sunday.

Despite the increasing number of Monkey pox virus (Mpox) cases in the Philippines, the Department of Health assures that the situation is manageable and the country is not part of the World Health Organization's (WHO) public health emergency of international concern. Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa mentioned that although there has been a rise in local Mpox cases, the numbers are lower compared to the previous year.

Herbosa emphasized the importance of education, treatment, and isolation measures to prevent the further spread of the disease. The new cases reported are of the milder Clade II variant, which has a lower mortality rate than Clade I.

Unlike Clade I, Clade II Mpox cases are self-limiting and do not require extensive government intervention. The WHO public health emergency primarily focuses on Clade Ib, a variant of the Mpox virus that is highly transmissible through close contact and sexual transmission.
