The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Crisis Intervention Unit conducted a home visit in the City of San Jose Del Monte (SJDM) in Bulacan to evaluate the condition of a person with autism disorder who was physically abused in a public utility bus.

A social worker from the City Social Welfare and Development Office of SJDM provided assistance to the victim, who underwent a medical checkup as reported on Sunday.

Following Secretary Rex Gatchalian's directive, the DSWD worked with the local government unit (LGU) of SJDM to explore additional interventions for the victim's family.

DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao mentioned that they are considering referring the victim's family for psychosocial support through the WiSupport program and providing financial aid.

The WiSupport program offers comprehensive services to clients in crisis situations, especially those dealing with extreme stress and mental health issues.

Dumlao emphasized the importance of resuming the victim's therapy, which was halted due to financial constraints.

It was discovered during the home visit that the victim's family relies on selling corn for a living, which is insufficient to cover the therapy costs. The DSWD is now working on connecting the family with medical facilities or partner organizations to ensure the victim can continue therapy sessions.

The Department will also assist the family in exploring options for pursuing a criminal case related to the abuse incident.

DSWD and SJDM LGU will continue to offer various forms of support to the victim and his family based on ongoing assessments to aid in their full recovery from the traumatic event.
