Vice President Sara Z. Duterte recently addressed the lack of an official date for former President Rodrigo Duterte's oathtaking as Davao City mayor. During a press briefing on Monday, she clarified that there are ongoing discussions regarding the oath-taking and the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE). Vice President Duterte mentioned that her father is working with Filipino lawyers on the matter, and she is not privy to the details of their discussions.

One key issue arising from this uncertainty is the former Chief Executive's compliance with post-election requirements. Vice President Duterte explained that an oath must be taken before the SOCE can be submitted. She noted that former President Duterte's lawyer represented him at the Commission on Elections due to the absence of an oath-taking ceremony.

On June 11, the deadline for submission, former President Duterte, along with mayoral candidates Joselito Tan and Jonathan Julaine, failed to submit their SOCE, according to the Comelec. Comelec-Davao Assistant Regional Director Gay Enumerables emphasized that submitting the SOCE is mandatory for all candidates, regardless of the election outcome. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in fines and other penalties based on election laws.

Vice President Duterte also addressed the rumors and confusion surrounding former President Duterte's assumption of office. As of now, there has been no oath-taking ceremony, leading to uncertainty about the elected Mayor of Davao City. The Vice President mentioned that until June 30, when they can only wait for further developments, the former Chief Executive will not take office without completing the oath-taking process.

No official confirmation has been provided by former President Duterte's legal team regarding his potential assumption of office.
