NASA has reported a stadium-sized asteroid, 2003 AY2, termed as a potentially hazardous object, will approach the Earth on June 22. Four other smaller asteroids will pass by the planet this week.

Several asteroids are heading towards Earth this week, but there is no need to worry as they will only pass close by. NASA has identified a stadium-sized asteroid, 2003 AY2, as a potentially hazardous object that will approach Earth on June 22.

The largest asteroid, 2003 AY2, is estimated to be 366 meters (1,200 feet) across and will come within 60 lakh kilometers of Earth. In addition to this, four other smaller asteroids are also expected to pass by our planet this week.

On June 16, asteroid 2025 HN6, nearly the size of an airplane, will fly by Earth at a safe distance of 2,440,000 km. The following day, on June 17, a building-sized asteroid named 2000 LF3, measuring 162 meters (530 feet) across, will make its closest approach. Two airplane-sized asteroids are set to pass by on June 18 and 19.

The Lowell Observatory Near-Earth-Object Search (LONEOS) discovered the asteroid 2003 AY2 on January 2, 2003. However, very little is known about its physical properties other than its absolute magnitude, according to NASA.

NASA closely monitors such large space objects and utilizes the Asteroid Watch Dashboard to keep track of the date of closest approach, approximate object diameter, relative size, and distance from Earth for each encounter. Any object larger than 150 meters that can come within 4.6 million miles of Earth is classified as a potentially hazardous object.
